Natural Family Photographer in London

Planning a family photoshoot is exciting — a beautiful way to freeze time and capture the love, laughter, and connection that makes your family uniquely yours. Whether you're booking a session in your local park, at home, or at one of my favourite outdoor locations around Bexley and South East London, here are my top tips to help you feel relaxed and ready for the day.

1. Choose Outfits That Feel Like You

When it comes to clothing, comfort and simplicity are key. Stick to soft, neutral tones or warm earthy shades — they photograph beautifully and won’t distract from the connection between you. Avoid bold logos, busy patterns, or anything too tight or fussy. Coordinating is great, but don’t worry about matching perfectly.

Top tip: Lay out your outfits the day before. Think textures like knits, linen, or denim — they add subtle depth to your photos.

2. Keep the Schedule Calm and Flexible

If your little ones are happiest after a nap or breakfast, let’s plan around that. We’ll choose a time of day that works well for both the lighting and your family’s rhythm. Sessions are always relaxed — we’ll take breaks when needed, have snacks on hand, and just go with the flow.

3. Bring a Few Essentials

For younger children, it’s a great idea to bring:

  • Water and snacks (nothing too messy!)
  • A favourite comfort toy or blanket
  • Wipes or tissues (just in case)

For babies, extras like muslins, spare clothes, and a dummy can be handy too. We’ll take our time, so there’s no pressure.

4. Let Go of Perfection

Real moments are the most beautiful ones. Whether it’s a big laugh, a spontaneous cuddle, or your toddler running wild — those are the memories you’ll treasure. At Jo Cove Photography, my style is natural and connection-focused — no stiff posing, just gentle direction to help you feel at ease.

Don’t worry if things feel a bit chaotic (that’s family life!). I’m here to capture the love in all its beautiful, messy, magical glory.

5. Trust the Process

You don’t have to be “photogenic” or know what to do — that’s my job. I’ll guide you gently, help you feel comfortable, and create space for real connection. All you need to do is show up, be yourselves, and enjoy some time together.

Bonus: Make It an Occasion

After the session, why not make a little day of it? Plan something lovely — lunch at your favourite café, a walk in the park, or cosy time at home with hot chocolate and a film. It turns your family shoot into a memory in itself.

Studio vs. Location Family Sessions – Which One is Right for You?

At Jo Cove Photography, I offer both studio family sessions and outdoor location sessions — each with its own beautiful charm. If you’re wondering which is best for your family, here’s a little insight to help you decide.

🌿 Location Family Sessions – Natural, Outdoors & Full of Life

Location sessions take place outdoors, often in one of my favourite parks or open spaces around Bexley, Sidcup, Greenwich, or elsewhere in South East London.

These sessions are perfect for:

  • Families who love nature and movement
  • Kids who like to explore and run wild
  • Golden-hour lovers — that soft, dreamy evening light is pure magic!

We’ll go for a walk, find beautiful light, and let your family just be together. Think cuddles in long grass, piggybacks, tickles, and real laughter — all naturally captured in a relaxed way.

Outdoor family sessions are relaxed, unposed, and full of connection. It’s all about storytelling in a beautiful, natural setting.

🕊️ Studio Family Sessions – Cosy, Calm & Timeless

Prefer a more intimate setting? Studio sessions take place in my cosy, light-filled space in South East London. It’s clean, neutral, and designed to keep the focus on your family and your connection.

These sessions are ideal for:

  • Families with very young children or babies
  • Cooler months when you want to stay warm and comfortable
  • A minimalist, timeless look

There’s no weather to worry about, and the vibe is calm and simple — perfect for cuddles on the studio bed or gentle moments between siblings. I’ll guide you throughout so everything feels easy and natural.

Studio sessions are all about connection, softness, and keeping things beautifully simple.

No matter which session you choose, my approach is always the same — natural, relaxed, and focused on real connection. I’ll help you feel at ease so we can capture the love that makes your family uniquely yours.

Kind Words

I had a family outdoor photoshoot with Jo this summer in Bexley, I was really pleased with the pictures. It was one of the most fun and organic photoshoots I ever had. Jo is brilliant, very accommodating and professional. She captured some of the most beautiful and candid pictures!
