Welcoming a new baby into the world is such a special time, and those first few weeks seem to pass in the blink of an eye. Newborn photography is a beautiful way to preserve those tiny details, from delicate little fingers and toes to the sleepy cuddles you'll want to remember forever.
As a newborn photographer based in Sidcup, Bexley, I photograph families from across South East London and Kent. One of the questions I'm often asked is: When is the best time to book a newborn photoshoot?

When Is the Best Time for Newborn Photography?
I generally recommend photographing your baby within their first two weeks, ideally between 5 and 14 days old.
During this time, many babies are still quite sleepy and naturally curl into those lovely newborn positions. It's a wonderful time to capture their tiny features and all the little details that change so quickly as they grow.
However, every baby is different, and there is no need to worry if your baby is already a few weeks old. I also photograph older newborns, including babies up to around eight weeks old. These sessions can be just as beautiful, capturing more alert expressions, little stretches and those gorgeous moments when your baby starts looking around at the world.
The most important thing is capturing memories of your baby, whatever their age.
When Should You Book Your Newborn Photographer?
I recommend getting in touch during your pregnancy, ideally during your second or third trimester, to discuss your session and reserve a provisional date around your due date.
Once your baby arrives, we can confirm the actual session date together.
Booking ahead means you can relax knowing your newborn photography is arranged, without needing to organise everything once your little one has arrived.

What Happens During a Newborn Photoshoot?
My approach to newborn photography is natural, relaxed and baby-led. I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience without worrying about getting everything perfect.
My studio newborn sessions take place in my cosy Sidcup studio, where I have a selection of newborn outfits and accessories available. We can capture beautiful portraits of your baby, along with those tiny details you'll treasure.
I also offer relaxed lifestyle newborn sessions in your own home. These sessions focus on natural light, cuddles and the connections between you and your new baby, capturing your family just as you are.
Your baby's comfort and safety always come first. We take things at your baby's pace, allowing time for feeding, changing, cuddles and settling whenever needed.
What If My Baby Is Already a Few Weeks Old?
Please don't worry! Although the first two weeks are often ideal for traditional newborn portraits, beautiful photographs can be created at any stage.
Older newborns may be more alert, making eye contact and showing little glimpses of their emerging personality. These photographs tell a slightly different story, but they are just as precious.
