Tips for posing newborns without props
These are my top 5 most popular newborn photography poses that i do without props. Posing newborns isn't always easy but with practice and patience you will create the most beautiful images and soon get used to posing newborns in a variety of poses. During my newborn sessions i usually start with wrapped images of the baby first. This will help settle the newborn and make them feel cosy and warm. I do sometimes start with unwrapped poses if the baby is very sleepy but you have to assess how the baby is. Every newborn session is different and you have to asses the best way to start depending on the baby. All these little newborns have their own little personalities already which definitely shines through!
Top 5 newborn photography poses
Hands on Chin newborn pose
This newborn pose is one on my most popular requested poses. It's so cute and shows all the features of their cute little face, Those squishy cheeks, tiny nose and little lips. Not every newborn will like doing every pose, i only do this pose if the baby naturally goes into it and i have had a lot of practice!
Side bum up newborn pose
This is usually a really natural and easy newborn pose to do, as a lot of the time if your newborn is on your chest they are mostly likely in a position similar to this. Look how cosy he is, I will pose the baby on the beanbag and then let them get comfy. once they have settled you can make a few adjustment with their hands and legs.
Laying on their side newborn pose
Another natural and easy newborn pose which shows all the beautiful features of your little bubba. Lay the baby on their side on the bean bag, hold them for a little bit for comfort until they are settled. A lot of the time i find the newborn will just get into this pose by themself and then you can adjust slightly as needed.
Wrapped newborn pose
Wrapping the newborn baby can help settle them if they are not quite asleep yet. You can photograph the baby in this pose from above and from the front. Another popular natural timeless pose and a great way to start off a newborn session.
Wrapped newborn pose showing hands and feet
I love showing the babies feet and hands. This wrap allows the baby to still be slightly wrapped and cosy while showing those cute features. This is quite an easy newborn pose to do, slowly wrap the wrap around the baby and position them on the bean bag. You can then photograph the baby from different angles creating beautiful images.
